Earth science research and applications depend upon high quality observed data. However, raw observational data are not suitable for direct use. Raw data are often in instrument units, lack calibration, and require quality control and assurance processes to create useful data. Modern standards also require adherence to FAIR and open data practices, adding additional requirements on documentation and data center capabilities.

Data management practices define raw observational data as Level 0, and observational data transformed to calibrated, well documented, FAIR and open products as Level 1. Level 1 data are the foundation of Earth science, and Level One Data derives our name from the integral process required to produce such high quality data.

We have decades of experience managing workflows to convert raw observational Level 0 data to Level 1 products. We also have experience with instrument network design and management, data management and interoperability, and data center management and cloud full-stack and dev/ops. Finally we have a long history of scientific research, generating value-added Level 2 and 3 products with advanced processing techniques, and support of various research projects and applications.
